Check out this awesome video Aquarist Lauren captured of scolymia coral eating krill! This coral has symbiosis with zooxanthellae like other photosynthetic corals but it also eats plankton. The slit in the center of the coral is its mouth, food is caught in the feeding tentacles and then moved to the mouth. Most reef-building corals rely on partnerships with algae, or zooxanthellae, which live in their tissue. The coral serves as a home and provides products for photosynthesis, and in return the algae remove wastes and supply the coral with nutrients resulting from that photosynthesis.
